Looking for information on John Gately and Mary Waldron. I believe that both were from Roscommon and that additional Gately's came to San Francisco in the 1850's from Roscommon as well and were related.
I believe John arrived from Hawaii in 1853 and it is possible that he came en route from Australia. A family grave at Mission Dolores in SF states family are natives of Roscommon.
John and Mary had 4 children all born in SF:
1. John F. Gately d. 1907 in SF
2. William Gately d. SF (believe without issue)
3. Anne Gately m. 1880 to John Manning
4. Mary Gately b. 1864 d. 1906 in SF married Henry Tasset
Death Cert of John F. Gately states parents name including mother's maiden name of Waldron.
Griffiths Valuation shows a single Waldron in Cam parish and many Gately's there as well. My guess is that they were from this parish. There are 2 John Gately's listed in Cam in Coolagarry and Cornalee. A Thomas Waldron is in Curry, Cam, Roscommon.
