QUESTION - McManus - Hill Street - Mohill

Does anyone have any information on the McManus family (Church of Ireland, Mohill and Fenagh)that resided in Hill Street, Mohill during the 1890's. I am researching a John McManus (my great great great Uncle) who joined the Connaught Rangers in October 1897 who was raised in the village before enlistment in Galway. His father William McManus, formerly from Ballyjamesduff was a coachman employed in the Lawderdale Estate married an Angnes Payne from the village. They had three other children William, Kathleen (Born Mohill) and Agnes (Born Bandon, Cork). This is were I have come to a dead end with my research. From my information it appears William McManus was killed. Exactly when and how i do not know but the two versions that have arisen claims he was killed on the estate by a horse kick and the other version of events claims he was shot dead. How does one start to explore the circumstances surrounding William McManus'S death ?
