O'Tooles from Carrick-on-Shannon in County Leitrim 1860's

Post by poolgirl »

Looking for information on family surname of O'Toole. My great-grandfather Bernard O'Toole born 1863 in Carrick on Shannon , in the county of Leitrim. Had at least one sister I know of - Cecelia born approx., 1861 ...know there were more siblings. Father's name was also Bernard and his occupation was listed as Farmer. Bernard Jr.married Kathleen Lahiff in 1891 and imigrated to the British West Indies. His sister Cecelia moved to Manchester and married a Masterson. Her youngest son became the Archbishop of Manchester in 1947. Not sure when she died.

I am trying to find any other information on the family. I have hit dead ends and could use some help!

There is an interesting book by Lawrence McBride called "Irish Narratives: The Reynolds Letters" A William Lawrence, who se mother Mary O'Toole is from Carrick, dies with some wealth and leaves a will. In the will he mentions relatives back in Carrick and Mohill and a relative Annie Masterson in Manchester.
Another one of the lettes mentions his mother's sister, Cicily, back in Leitrim. I believe that Cecela is latin for Cicily.
So there may be a tie in.
Let me know if you desire further information.
