According to Lawrence McBride's "Irish Narrative: The Reynolds Letters", William Reynolds has a cousin named Marian O'Toole who is married to a McManus who is the School Master at the Carrick Workhouse. The letter was written about 1890.

Found a Joseph McManus and his wife Annie living in #71 in Carrick, Leitrim in the 1901 census (children are Catherine and Henry). Does anyone know if Joseph McManus was a school master?

Better yet, does anyone know if there is a list of school masters at the Work house?

Thanks for any leads.

Just an update:
Found an Irish 1901 Census entry which indicates that Patrick McManus (54) of an adjacent townland (Linsbrac?)was a school master with a wife Maria (45) who is matron of the workhouse. Their children ages 13 - 1 seem to indicate that they were married about 1886.

I think this family is a better match than the Joseph McManus listed in my earlier post. ... Just to set the record straight.
