Michael Corcoran was born Leitrim townland, Kilbride parish, to John Corcoran and Catherine Flanagan, Oct. 1839.In 1863 he travelled to Liverpool, and thence on a ship called The Royal Family to Melbourne, Australia.Probably because he was illiterate,he never made contact with home.
In1920, his nephew, John Corcoran wrote to the police in Melbourne, seeking the whereabouts of Michael. He was found living in a small rented hut in a town called Stawell. He said he was 80 years of age, in perfect health, had never married and had no relatives in Australia.
On Feb. 2 1925, Michael died in The Nazareth Home in Ballarat.
We would love to know anything about Michaels life between 1863 and 1925.
