Thomas Neary of Co. Galway, Ireland

Post by Nancy D. Lewis »

I have just started trying to do some research on my family. My great, great grandfather is Thomas Neary of Co. Galway, Ireland. He was born on December 14, 1837. His parents were Peter and Esther (Burns) Neary. Peter died when Thomas was 2 1/2 years old. Esther, her sons Patrick and Thomas came to America about 1850. They settled at Marlboro, Monmouth county, New Jersey, where they lived for four or five years, then moved to Connersville, Fayette county, Indiana. Thomas Neary came to Illinois in 1862, living in Whiteside county, near Rock Falls. He had a sizable farm and retired to the village of Fenton, IL in 1903. He died in 1923.
He married in 1864 to Ellen Scott. Her parents were Asa and Elizabeth (Taylor) Scott of Ohio. Thomas and Ellen had five children: Mary (sp. Fred M. Prestley of Fenton, my conniction to the family), Anna (sp. Elisha Ball of Morrison), Emma (sp. Frank Elmendorf of Morrison), William A. of Fenton, and Fred C. (sp. Edith Thompson of Fenton).
If anyone has infomation on Thomas or his parents or children, I would love to hear from you.
Thank You.
