Looking at the birth record for my gGrandmother, her place of birth is listed as "Shancough." This is from births registered in Castleplunket, Castlerea, Roscommon (from FHC film 0256067: Civil reg, birth 1880, vol.4, page 121).
Searching the IreAtlas Townland DB, for Shancough there are two records for townlands that come up as being part of Sligo county.
Can anyone shed some light on this? Could Shancough be a section of the townland of Castleplunket in Roscommon? Or, would a birth in one county (Sligo) be *registered* in another county (Roscommon)? If so, why?
Thanks for any help!

Don't know why it's not in the usually reliable IreAtlas.

I don't see a way of adding attachments to follow-ups, but if you send me your email address I will attach a small map showing Shankough to a return email.
