Mike
My great-grandmother's maiden name was Bridget Rafferty, although I have seen it spelled Raftery on at least one record. She and my great-grandfather, Michael Durr (both were born ca. 1825), emigrated from Ballaghaderreen to the U.S. in March, 1861. The family lived in Whiteside and Lee counties in northwest Illinois the rest of their lives. Bridget died in 1896 and Michael in 1887.
I am just starting to research the family names, and like you, am trying to find Durr and Rafferty relatives who may have stayed in Ballaghaderreen. I'll post more information as I discover it.
