My family and I just returned from a trip to Ireland in August. We were able to do some family history while we were there. The pieces are finally beginning to be put together. I have posted before under Morris and Flanagan. If you are interested, you can go to the archives and read my previous posts. My family is from a townland called Erritt (Errit). It is so small that people who have lived nearby have never heard of it. It is located about 10-12 miles northwest of Castlerea. We started our search in Castlerea, then to Loughglynn and then Gortaganny. In Gortaganny, we found a woman who had lived next door to our Morris relatives in the 1920's. She was so helpful and actually took us to the remains of our family home which existed since at least the mid-1800's. On the same property was the remains of the country store which various family members had run since at least 1901. We believe, so far, that the oldest member of our family was a Dominic(k) Flanagan who leased the land in 1855. His daughter, Catherine Flanagan, married Edward Morris born abt. 1828, died December 23, 1878 in Erritt. Catherine and Edward apparently had been living in the house when Dominic(k) Flanagan died and they became the head of household. When Edward Morris died in 1878, Catherine Flanagan Morris became head of household. When Catherine died or her son, John Morris came of age, John was listed as head of household from 1896 to 1939. The land was then taken over by one of John's daughters-Kathryn (Kate) Morris Robinson. I have so much more information but don't want to make this to confusing. If you feel that you may be connected, please contact me. I check this board several times a week.
