I am researching the origins of my great-great grandfather, THOMAS PATTERSON, b1805 d July 27 1871who arrived in the province of New Brunswick Canada from Ireland in June 1828. Family legend has it that he arrived with a brother who stayed in Saint John N.B. while THOMAS traveled up the Saint John River to Lincoln Parish near Fredericton N.B. On May 21 1831 he married MARY ANN FOWLER b1843 d (?}, a Canadian born daughter of Irish immigrants. Thomas was active in and one of the first to be baptized by Rev. SAMUEL HARTT into the Lincoln Free Christian Baptist Church founded in 1833. THOMAS and MARY had six children MARY J, JOHN ROLAND (my great-grandfather), FRANCIS, MARTHA ANNE, MELVIN and ANNE.THOMAS and many of his descendants are buried in the Lower Lincoln Cemetery
Of the fifty-eight Irish born immigrants with the PATTERSON surname listed in the New Brunswick 1851 census only two PATTERSON families were located in Lincoln Parish, my great-great-grandfather’s and that of FRANCIS PATTERSON. FRANCIS b1791 d March 20 1858, a native of Leitrim Ireland arrived in New Brunswick in September 1824 accompanied by his wife MARY ANNE b1803 d June 5 1865 and daughters ALICE b 1823 d (?) and ISABELLA b 1824 d March 2 1903. In Lincoln they had four more children, MARY A, WILLIAM G, JOHN W AND FRANCIS. None of the FRANCIS family members are in the 1861 census of Lincoln Parish. The family moved on after the death of FRANCIS in 1858. Perhaps THOMAS and FRANCIS are related
I would appreciate any help I can get in discovering the birthplace,(county, parish and/or town) in Ireland of THOMAS PATTERSON.
