Galey name

Post by Lee Anna Galey »

Oral history has it that my family is from Roscommon Co. I haven't been able to trace them back, but I do know there is a Galey Castle and some place names that contain Galey.
Can anyone tell me why the name Galey is used in that area? Does it have some meaning other than as a proper name?
Thanks.
