Boyle, Roscommon

Post by Kathy Coleman »

My family the Nephin's emigrated from the Boyle area during the time of the famine. I am interested in gathering info regarding the history of Boyle...ie did the people of the area emigrate together, what route did they take, info regarding Lord Lorton's estate, etc
Thanks, Kathy

I wanted to add a little more info than before. My family, the Nephin's were a Roman Catholic family from the Boyle area (St. Joseph's Church in Boyle). They settled in Canada around the time of the famine, and likely arrived in the United States first (probably New York City, according to family legend). I know that the people from the Strokestown area usually took a route from Dublin , across to Liverpool and then across to the United States. Since Boyle is so close to Sligo, would the people there usually leave from Sligo?
Thanks ,
Kathy
