The NYC Shanley Restaurant Brothers<br>from County Leitrim, Ireland<p> Michael Shanley (b. in Maher, Annaduff, Leitrim, Ireland) married Margaret Faughnan in the late 1850s. They had 10 children; <br>John (born circa 1858 Leitrim, Ireland)<br>Thomas J. (b. Nov. 18, 1859 Rinn, Leitrim, Ireland)<br>Bernard Francis "Barney" (b. March 1861 Leitrim, Ireland)<br>Michael J. (b. Thomas also managed the restaurant on 42nd and Broadway, which opened in 1896. Eventually two brothers would run each of the 3 restaurants. <br> Thomas apparently had a sense of humor, on Oct. 13, 1897 the 42nd and Broadway restaurant had an electrical fire in the boiler room, when the firemen arrived Thomas had the orchestra strike up “There’ll Be a Hot Time in the Old Town Tonight”. <br> He married Sarah L. You state that the Shanley Hotel was in Napanoch, Long Island, but Napanoch is in Ulster County, near Ellenville, NY, not in Long Island. <p>So many of the names resonate in my family. These people sound like cousins to my great grandfather. The Names listed below are very familar in my Shanley Line. Do you know if any of these Shanleys immagrtaed to Germany First then to America?<br>I have a letter that says the name Bernard Shanley has been in my family line since the early 1700's. My great grandfathers name is John Shanley, and his father & brother were named Bernard. He arrived in 1896, and was naturalized in 1901. James joined the restaurant business for a time. He eventually opened Shanley's Hotel in Napanoch, Long Island. <br>: James married Beatrice Rowley who was born about 1882 in Ireland. She arrived in 1900.
