I am a Rooney, my direct ancestors moved across for Ireland to Liverpool in the 1880s. The family name of Daniel seems to be adopted consistently - my grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather. My great grandfather married an Edith Ella Corlett of the Isle of Man. She was born in 1883 and married, probably in 1900.
Mark Rooney MA Oxon
United Kingdom
I am a 4th generation American Rooney. My great, great grandfather, Thomas H. Rooney, husband to Bridge Siggins, came to the USA and settled in the Monmouth County area of New Jersey. He was born in 1837 and died in 1917. Buried at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold, NJ.
I was in Roscommon May of 1997 trying to go further back on the family tree. Visited the genealogical office in Strokestown but was told I needed to know whether Thomas H. Rooney and Bridget Siggins were married in Ireland or the USA and whether their children, Michael, Mary, John and Thomas were born in Ireland or the USA.
