Plans are well under way for the first Rally and Reunion of the Towey
Family of Ballaghaderreen. On 14 April 2001 at 8 p.m., the Toweys
will meet at The Foxhunter Pub in Ballydowd, Lucan, Co. Dublin,
Ireland to renew old acquaintances and to meet cousins anew. The
Foxhunter is beside the N4 highway, just west of the M50 ring road
from Dublin Airport so it is very conveniently located. That
night's discussion of the family's origins should be a lively one,
since the Toweys themselves have several contending versions which
differ from those found in the Irish surname books by MacLysaght and
Woulfe.
The Rally will continue on 15 April, Easter Sunday afternoon, at The
Spa Hotel, also in Lucan and just a bit farther down the N4 highway
to the west. That will be the time to complete preparations for
official recognition by the Clans of Ireland.
We are assured of good representation from Ireland and the U.S., and
of course others who have not contacted us yet will be highly
welcome too. If you still seeking information about your own Towey
family members, why don't you send us a Pedigree Chart &/or a Family
Group Record which includes as much as you know about your Irish-born
ancestors. There will be Toweys attending the rally who are familiar
with the various families and the available records.
Mike Towey, a native of Ballaghaderreen, is handling the Lucan
arrangements; contact him at ToweyMike@hotmail.com (or at the
previously posted mike_towey@hotmail.com ). His mailing address is
34 Monastery Gate Ave., Clondalkin, Dublin 22, Ireland.
Tel 3531-4642379. Send your family charts to him too.
If you are in the U.S. and have questions or need information about
travel or nearby accomodations, places to visit in Dublin, etc.,
contact Dick Towey at TOWEYLR@PROAXIS.COM (who is NOT a travel agent;
just a tourist). We will be visiting Ballaghaderreen after the Lucan
sessions, and Mike and I may be able to provide help on where/whom
you want to visit. Have you seen the "Four Altars" in Ballaghaderreen?
Dick Towey
