finding mary kilgariff callaghan(my grandmother)

Post by patricia callahan honaker »

I am very interested to know my father's side of the family. I know very little and maybe someone out there can. My father was Thomas patrick callahan and he was born in 1891 in Philidelphi,Pa. His father was Corneluis Callaghan and his mother was Mary Kilgariff Callaghan. He told me that they were both frome Co.Cork,Ireland and came over on a passage. I do now know if they were married or not when they arrived from Ireland. My father was in WW1 and was 27 years older than my mother. My mother passed away on Mother's Day of 2000 and I am an only child. Now I will never know. Please if anyone has any information that could help me, I would appreciate it.My father supposedly was married before my mother was even born and had a son. Anxiously awaitng!!!

The Kilgarriff's are easier with a total of 30 listings, of which 9 or 10 are in Roscommon and 16 in Galway. All listings have two r's and two f's.
Patricia
As well as researching my mothers family from Roscommon, I also research my Fathers Cork connections, I cannot help specifically but I can tell you that the Cork Callaghans were centred in and around the barony of Duhallow in Cork, there are several Cork related websites and I dare say that if you search you will find a Callaghan specific site. Not much but it is a start and thats where we all begin. Good luck.
: : I am very interested to know my father's side of the family. I know very little and maybe someone out there can.
