In previous searches I have been looking for the name of McQueeney. With a lot of hard work I have discovered that my gggrandfather was actually Patrick McAwainey.<br>He was a master shoe and bootmaker who married Bridget Finaghan in Edinburgh, Scotland on 29th July 1844.<br>They had two daughters born in Scotland Bridget in 1858 and Sarah in 1861.<br>I believe that Patrick was born in Leitrim 1825 based on the 1881 Census and I would be interested to here from anyone who could give me any more information in regards to this family.<br>With thanks in advance, John

John, you may be interested in the origins of the name. Like MacAweeny, McAwainey is an anglicised form of the Irish surname Mac Mhaonaigh, meaning 'son of Maonach' (wealthy, or dumb). It was the name of an ancient family of Moylurg, in Co. Roscommon.<p>Regarding your family, I can't add to what your own research has already disccovered, mamely that Bridget McAwainey was born 12 Jun 1858 at Dunfermline, and Sarah on 9 Apr 1861 at Anderston, Glasgow (with whom Patrick McQUEENIE, then a widower, was living at 1 Baillies Crt, Edinburgh in 1881, together with Sarah's husband Thomas McDonald).

They had children as early as February 02, 1837, my gg-grandmother, Rose Ann McAWEENEY, the emigrant.<p>I would be happy to share rest of this family info. Please contact me. Jim Johnson<p><br>
