Francis Ross/ Esther Carruthers

Post by Tom Ross »

I am searching for the parntage of my ancestor, Francis Ross, b. appx. 1748 d. 1824. He reportively lived in N. Ireland (some say Roscommon, but I am not sure). He married Esther Carruthers there. She was the daughter of Hugh Carruthers and Sarah Purviance. Francis was a Lt. in Amer. Rev. from Mecklenburg Co., N.C. and lived near Rocky River. This area later became Cabarrus Co., N.C. Francis named his sons, Joseph, John, Hugh, Robert, Francis, and James. His only daughter's name was Jane. Somehow, I feel that his father's name was either Francis or James. Is anyone researching the same family and has anyone ever heard of a Francis Ross, who emigrated to America? Any help that you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Tom Ross
