I am hoping to become an Irish Citizen using my Maternal Grand Father , Mark Mathew Sharkey and need to establish his place of birth to obtain the original long form civil Irish birth certificate. I have obtained a Death Certificate which says that a cause of his death is 'due to gunshot wounds sutained in September 1918 whilst on active service'. He died in the UK on the 12th September 1935 and my Mother thinks he served with the Connaught Rangers. Is there anyone out there who can help me to establish my Grandfathers Place of Birth (we think it could be Killkeeny, Bally Ashlow, Gallway?).
