Ancestor's obituary states he was from West May, Ireland. Do you know if there is such a town. Family stories say he came from County Cork. Now I wonder it the West May might be West Mayo County.

Now I wonder it the West May might be West Mayo County.<p>The 1880 census for Schenectady, N.Y., Ward 3, contains the country of origin and includes what appears to be the county or equivalent where it was given. Some of the counties have a phonetic rendering, including Maid, Maeth, Math, West Maid, West Maeth, West Math, and one West May. I have concluded that these represent Meath and West Meath.<br>Other interesting names are Carloe, Lough, Dary, Lathram, and my favorite, Phermanna. <br>Elinor
