Will be visiting Ireland in a couple weeks. Would like to locate "family home" of my grandmother, Bridget Nertney (or Nerney), born 1874. Roman Catholic parish of Fourmilehouse. Civil Registration District of Ballyleague. Townland address was Mountcashel, Cloontuskert. I have also found reference to Clooncashel Beg, Kilgefin and Ballagh. Can anyone help??? Bridget's parents were Peter Nertney and Bridget Hanly. Siblings: Margaret, Ellen, Bernard, Patrick, Martin, John Joseph and Anne. Anne married James Kelly in 1899 in Ballagh Roman Catholic Church. Children of Anne & James Kelly were Mary Anne Kelly and Margaret Ellen Kelly.

Re: Nerney/Nerheny of Mountcashel, Kilgefin, Roscommon
Mary Anne
What a coincidence, I was looking up this family yesterday, my great grandfather was Bernard Nerney and he lived in Fairymount and they were related in some way. I believe I am right in saying that Bridget and Peter were living in Clooncashel Beg in 1901, this townland is in the parish of Kilgefin, the church is in Ballagh all these places are more or less at the southern foot of Slieve Bann, I can't help with the actual location of the house in Clooncashel but when you get there ask around I would say there must be descendants still there, I still have Nerney relations near Ballagh, we may be related! Please feel free to e-mail me direct and I can pass on what I have got, likewise I would be grateful if you could pass on any details you may have, I am trying to produce a definitive Nerney document that anyone searching for Nerney relations from the Slieve Bann area can refer to.
Look forward to hearing from you.
Brian Barry
: I am the daughter of Mary Anne Kelly.
