THE NEW ELLIS ISLAND PASSENGER SHIP DATABASE

To all researchers,
I've noticed that the new Ellis Island Passenger ship database continues
to receive a very large number of users, and this is resulting in an
annoying LONG period of time in order to log on and get the initial search
page up. Then once you get the search page up, it seems that you could
just as easy end up with a disconnect once you enter the name of your
ancestor for whom you want to obtain the record.
I have found an interesting method that has worked for me several times
now, so let me post this approach for others to try and see if it will
work for you as well.
Once you log in and send a name for the search, the site will execute a
"GET" command and send a search request that will display in your URL
"Location" field and looks like the following.....

http://www.ellisislandrecords.com/searc ... =1

I happened to print out my first page that contained the above requested
record and later found that if I copied that line and pasted it into
my URL Location field and changed the "Bridget" "Daly" to any other name that
I wanted to search, the Ellis Island site would process the request directly
without me having to go through the normal logon screen. So far, it has
sent back every request that I have submitted using this approach.
You should be able to highlight the above line in this message and paste
it into your URL Location field of your browser. Change the name entry
from my Bridget Daly to your ancestor's name and see how it works for
you.
You will be requested to log in on your first record retrival, so if you
already have a registered login, use it at that time, if you have not yet
registered, you will have to do so when you call up any individual record
displays.
Good luck, and please post back here to let me know if this works for
anyone else.
Ed Finn

I just noticed Ed Finn's posting of April 23. Several weeks ago I
developed a search form that collects your search parameters and
automatically generates the appropriate URL for you.
