Since you know when they came and where they went, you might want to track down the naturalization papers of James Moran. These are available for Massachusetts at the National Archives Center in Waltham, Ma or copies in NARA in Washington, D.C. I am not sure if they have all naturalization records or just the ones filed in federal court. I know that one of my great grandfather's filed and received his from a local state court and I was lucky enough to get a copy from the clerk of that court who was kind to me. This was from a few years prior to the tim when your ancestors came and this told the exact town he came from in Ireland and the date he arrived. I was able to get the name of the ship from that information. If you are not in Massachusetts, there is a service for a fee which will look this up for you - I have no idea how good they are in this - I did use them to search the l855/65 State Census at one time and they missed the relatives I was looking for because the name was mispelled in the census - not uncommon. I was able to take a look myself later and find what I was looking for. For what it is worth, the address: www.mass-doc.com. The site is extremely helpful, however, in explaining the whereabouts of many documents you may be seeking. Others may have information about this service.
Also, I saw on another site that the Worcester County Probate documents are easily accessible and the cost of obtaining copies is very reasonable. Apparently, someone in the office goes about once a month to find all the old files in the archives which have been requested and makes copies. That might be another avenue which could yield valuable information. Also, if you know when a person died and if it was in Worcester or any of the surrounding communities, you can obtain a copy of the obituary from the Worcester Telegram & Gazette for a very reasonable fee of $5.25. I e-mailed the archivist with the DOD and other information and he found an obit from l917.

Finally, I do know of another researcher searching Moran from the Drumshanbo, Leitrim area if that turns out to be where your ancestors are from. Her relatives settled in the Brockton/Abington area.
Good luck.

Re: MORAN's from Leitrim to Worchester, Mass
Barbara, Thanks for the offer. As of yet I do not know his death date.
All I know is he died before July 1923, because his daug. (my gg-grandmother Susan Moran Ryan) arrived in Boston in July 1923 and on her manifest is stated that her mother, sister and brother were alive and living in Mass. It said nothing in re. to here father Michael Moran. I may be jumping to conclusions, but if I ever find out I may take you up on the offer. Thanks.
Tom
RAIL269@cs.com

: : : After uncovering new research data, it seems my Moran's did not settle in Brooklyn after all but Worchester, Mass in 1903-1904. Re: MORAN's from Leitrim to Worchester, Mass
Thanks for the info. I rent films from Heritage Quest to view at home.
I will follow your advice and look into the Mass. Nat. Papers.
Since 99.9% of my family are from NY and Germany, I spent the last 12-15 years researching in those areas and have a good grasp on what's available and researching in those areas. This is basically my first foray outside NY State and Ireland and I'm in the process of learning what available. Thanks for your help.
Tom
Rail269@cs.com

: : After uncovering new research data, it seems my Moran's did not settle in Brooklyn after all but Worchester, Mass in 1903-1904.
