Has anybody carrying out research any information on anti republican activities in the early 20th century, specifically RIC and Black and Tan raids and reprisals, despite looking far and wide I have found no publication dealing with this subject that looks at Roscommon in any depth.
Brian Barry

Anti-republican activity in Ros early 20th C
Re: Anti-republican activity in Ros early 20th C
Try "For Ireland & Freedom" by Michael O'Callaghan. Originally published sometime c. 1950's, it was reprinted in the last few years. It gives a very thorough account of the background to and the incidents of The Anglo-Irish War in Co. Roscommon.
I know it was printed by "The Roscommon Herald", Patrick's Street, Boyle, so they may be able to offer further help. Their e-mail address is roherald@indigo.ie
Brian Costello
