Re: Conboyness
Hi Emily. I thought you may be interested in the origins of the name Conboy.
Conboy, like Conaboy and Conwy, is an Anglicised form of the Irish Gaelic surname Ó Conbhuidhe, meaning 'descendant of Cú-buidhe' (yellow-hound). It was the name of a family of Clann Ui Fiachrach who were, in ancient times, seated at Dunneill, in the barony of Tireragh, Co. Sligo. In O'Donovan's time, they were numerous in the parish of Easky, Co. Sligo. It was also the name of a family of Clann Ui Maine in Co. Galway.

Re: Conboyness
HI _ I am a Conboy Descendent - Great Grand momther was Winifred Conboy - born 1831 - married Richard Fairbrother in Castlerea in March 1846. Winifred's parents were Thomas conboy - listed as Quarry owner and Honor Conboy nee Hannaley. I can't find out if they were Catholic or not (Richard was a staunch Anglican) - they immigrated to New Zealand in 1851. I would love to find out if Winifred had any siblings - and would love help on this.
