I recently came across some documents that listed my great-grandfather as George Auliffe Musgrave. It appears he came to America from Drumshambo in 1904. If anyone has any suggestions on how I could find out more about him and our family, I would really appreciate it!

I just looked at the Ellis Island website and did not find George Musgrave in 1904. However, I did find: John E. Musgrave, age 21, single, arrived September 14, 1912 on SS Lusitania, having boarded at Queenstown/Cork. He had been in the U.S. in 1911 and was returning to his home at: 6 Evergreen Ave, Rye, NY. He had been born in Drumshanbo and his father was; James Musgrave, Derinaroo (?), Drumshanbo.
He might be a relative if your family had members living in Rye, NY.
The name next to his on the manifest was John Lynch, age 22, single,
also from Drumshanbo. They may have been traveling together.
Cheers,
Tom Voyles

Tom - One more question, how did you know his father's name? I didn't see it on the Ellis Island Records site. Thanks again. Karen

Karen

Karen,
Look at the John Musgrave original manifest page again. It is a two-page affair and you need click on "previous" to see the side headed "List or Manifest of Alien Passengers for the United". Click on the magnifying glass and go across to column number 11 which is entitled, "The Name and Complete Address of Nearest Relative or Friend in Country Whence Alien Came". John listed his father's name and address.
If I recall, there were over 100 Musgraves on that website, so I only scratched the surface. This one is the only one that I looked at, and that was because he came from Drumshanbo Parish. I do not know if he was a relative of yours. I thought it was worth a mention. Were any of your family in Rye, NY?
Tom
