The Caslin family tree

Post by Katania Caslin »

Hello I am 16 and I am studying family tree's for a project at college,I wanted to find out some reasearch for a good grade, and also to find out a little information about my roots.I hope I get a few replies ^_^*
My grandfather's name was Francis Caslin, his mother and father were called Thomas and Mary Caslin.Frank(as we call him)had a few brothers and two sister, his brothers were called:Peter and Joe(unfortunately we do not know the other's names)and his two sisters were called:Lillian and Margaret/Maggie.
He was born in 1915 his parents died when he was 3 years of age.
Frank was then brought up by his aunty(we think in Yorkshire)her sur name was Gilgannon then all I know is that one of his brothers had twin boys,we think he already had about 4 other boys before them, some went into the priesthood.
We believe that some of our relations are up in Liverpool and the rest in Ireland,if you have any information for me to go on please contact me at my email adress or even if you share the same second name as me.
Thanx a lot.Katania

Hiya Katania
I think I might be one of your distant cousins. I'm from the Liverpool side of the Gilgannons. I'm 33 and I've done quite a bit of research on the Gilly tree over the years. It's difficult to find out much from Eire as most of the documents going back were destryoyed due to a fire at the central records office. I was inspird to look up the Gilgannons because I've never met a Gilgannon who wasn't one of my direct blood cousins. Here's what I have anyway.
Gil means 'servant of...' in Celtic and Gannon is one of the 114 original Irish clan names. Michael Gilgannon and Mary-Anne Kauntz came to England in 1859 from Balladereen. This was my Grandfather's mum and dad. They had seven sons: Michael, James, John, Dennis, and I don't know the rest. Myself and all the Gilly's who live around Liverpool are all from this line of the family. My dad came from Michael and an English woman; as well as Uncle Dennis and Auntie Anne. By the way, Liverpool is in the County of Merseyside in the Northwest of England. Merseyside ws set up in the early 1900s for the immigrant Irish. Before the boundary changes, parts of Merseyside were in 'Lancashire' which is to the west of Yorkshire.
There are about 26 different septs of the family Gilgannon in Great Britain - I don't know the exact number because the last time I checked via a geneaology detective was back in 98. If you have any more info plesae pass it on. Wish you well in your research.
JJ

My father born in Stokestown, county Roscommon in 1906, and passed away in April, 2000 (Luke E. Caslin). He is one of 11 brothers and sisters, 9 boys, 2 girls. The sisters are alive and I believe 2-3 brothers. Only three left Stokestown to move to U.S. I am trying to make contact with Caslins still left in Stokestown which would include many cousins which I have not met. Grandparents Francis and Ellen Caslin. I know that uncles owned businesses and horse/cattle breed businesses in same area they grew up in.
