I am trying to locate my gt gt grandfather, Patrick 'nutney' or similar, from period 1840/50? where in Ireland might the name originate from? any help?

My guess is that you're looking for Nertney,probably written quickly by a priest or clerk somewhere to make the "e" and "r" resemble a "u" in cursive script. I have a ggrandmother who was a Nertney, and in going over old church documents, I've found that the name could easily be read as Nutney.Plenty of Nertney's (or Nerney's) around.
