Does anyone know how I would obtain the workhouse records for Castlerea (1871) and Carrick-On-Shannon (1875). From what I have read regarding workhouses on the internet there were meticulous records kept. I know the two births I am searching for were recorded by the superintendents. Has anyone tried to get the records and can give me some pointers? Thanks.

Jackie, I came across your query during an internet search for workhouse records. I located the workhouse records for New Ross, Co. Wexford in the custody of the county council archivist. Maybe if you contact the local library (especially if they have a local studies section), they will be able to steer you in the right direction. I know the information I got from the Wexford branch was very useful in locating old records.<p>
