DOLAN /SHIELDS
Re: DOLAN
I have 3 Donlan/Donnellan families that left Co. Roscommon in the 1847's. Please see the home page below. Perhaps thet are related to a John Donlan age 36 in 1847.

Re: COX AND SHIELDS
I'M LOOKING FOR INFORMATION ABOUT THE FOLLOWING JAMES COX AND HIS WIFE HANNAH SHIELDS, ALL WE KNOW OF THEM FOLLOWS: James Cox was a farmer living in County Roscommon, Ireland in the early and middle years of the nineteenth century. It is not known in exactly what part of the county he resided. His wife was Hannah Shields. It is not known who their parents were, but it is believed that the family had Scottish forbearers. The couple had five sons, four of whom emigrated around the middle of the century at the time of the potato famine in Ireland. The names of the sons are as follows:Robert Went to AustraliaJohn Stayed in IrelandBenjamin (1820 - 1876)William (1822 - 1899)Alexander P. (1840-1904) ALL THREE WENT TO MASSACHUSETTS & SETTLED IN CAMBRIDGE. ALSO USEFUL WOULD BE INFORMATION ABOUT WHICH PORTS ROSCOMMONER MOST FREQUENTLY DEPARTED FROM. ALSO OF INTEREST WOULD BE INFORMATION ABOUT THE SITUATION OF PROTESTANTS AT THAT TIME IN THE COUNTY.
