I am trying to obtain information on my gg grandfather Patrick Towey b.in either Ballaghdereen or Barnaboy.His wife was Catherine ?Bones and she lived in Stoke--on-trent in 1881 and 1891(census) with her son Thomas, his wife Mary and four sons,John patrick,Thomas,Martin and James, she was a nurse. Patrick Her husband was not alive at this time.There is no further record of her in Stoke on trent and according to legend she returned to Ireland with her son Thomas, leaving the children in Stoke-on-Trent. If there is anyone out there that has any information on this family i would be grateful for any info, please contact me at this web site.

The marriage register for St. Nathy's Cathedral in Ballaghaderreen has an entry for the marriage of Patrick Towey and Catherine Bones on 14 March 1865. The witnesses were John Towey and Winifred Bones. The wedding occurred during the long period when the church records did not identify townlands where the parties resided, but with luck there may have been a civil record of the marriage and this would probably have recorded their residences. You will probably need to contact the General Register Office in Dublin for a copy of this record, since GRO has never released microfilms of their marriage records to the Family History Library of the LDS Church. This latter does have microfilms of the index to marriages, which you might use to confirm that the civil marriage record does indeed exist. The Irish GRO birth records do not list the births of any of their children in the Ballaghaderreen area from 1865 through 1870, so perhaps their move to England occurred fairly soon after the marriage. If you have not done so already, you might also take a look at the 1901 Census records which Roger McDonnell has compiled for this (L-R BB) web site. There does not seem to be a widow Catherine Towey living with her son Thomas there, but there are a few Catherines and even a couple of Patricks with Catherines. Best of Luck.

They <br>also have the actual 1865 marriage registrations, which start<br>with volume 1 on microfilm FHL 0101470.
