Famine Story around Strokestown

Post by Mary Lee Dunn »

Anyone who is interested in Famine history, especially the events around Strokestown, may be interested in the fictional account of them by Patrick Erin Monaghan titled Because They Never Do.
Monaghan's novel is factually based and deals with Denis Mahon's evictions and forced emigration to Quebec and his murder. Monaghan involves his own ancestors in his tale and his characters eventually reunite in Providence, RI, and then move on to Wisconsin.
The book is well done! See the web site below for more information. It was published in 2002.
Mary Lee
