The
fewer characters you use, the better. This will
help eliminate the chance of a misspelling. From
the list of Townlands that displays, pick the one
that is the closest to the Townland that you are
looking for (spelling or sound). Write down all
the information that is displayed.
Do the exact same process for Ballyleague. Once
again, you can enter fewer characters if you wish
just in case there might be a spelling issue with
the Townland name you've been given. From the list
that comes up, make your selection of the one that
you believe is closest to "Ballyleague" and write
down the displayed information.
You can now go to the Civil Parish maps (find the
link from the home page), look up the two Civil
Parishes that you selected for your Fairymont and
your Ballyleague. Once again, remember that the
spelling might be slightly different. This is a
very common issue when doing Irish research.
If you have any problems, please drop me a line
at my email address efinn@thecore.com.
Good luck with your research.
Ed Finn
efinn@thecore.com

Fairymount used to be called Sidh Neannta, then Mullaghshee, on ancient and old maps near the present day village of Lanesborough. Ballyleague is the English for Baile-atha-liag which crossed the Shannon at the present day village of Lanesborough. It was also called Ath-liag. Pete Hanley phanley@arnoldcom.com
