Hello All
I am desperately seeking information with regard to my Great Grandfather, John Kelly, who was from Ardnaree, Ballina.
John Kelly was born c1853, Ballina, died 1921, Scotland.
John married Bridget Frain c1880, somewhere around Ballina.
John was employed as a fisherman, as was his Father, John (Mother unknown).
John and Bridget had ten children, all born in Ballina:
James b 1883
Katherine b 1885
Michael b 1887
John b 1888
Thomas b 1889 (My Grandfather)
Bridget b 1890
William b 1892
Peter b 1895
Joseph b 1897
Maude b 1899
I have been reasonably successful in tracing their steps after they went to Scotland sometime very soon after 1901, but any details of tracing them in Ireland has proved very frustrating.
I was wondering if anyone can help me find out the following:
John's birth/Parents.
John and Bridget's Marriage. (Bridget's Parents were John Frain and Catherine Ward).
John's Siblings.
John and Bridget's childrens' birth details.
John and Bridget are on the 1901 census, with the 10 children living in Ardnaree, Clare St, Parish of Kilmoremoy.
I would be extremely grateful for any assistance that any kind soul may have.
Thank You

David,
Births, marriages, and deaths were registered in Ireland
by the government starting in 1864. The births of those
ten children born between 1883 and 1899 would have been
registered. The registration for each will give date
of birth, place of birth (townland) , names of the parents,
including mother's maiden name, etc, etc.
There are two ways to get copies of those registrations.
First you can go on the site of the General Registrar's
Office and pay for them to locate your ancestors. The
site is: www.groireland.com
You can also do it on your own at an LDS Family History
Library Center (FHLC) near you. The Mormons have
these library outstations all over the world. If you
go this route you will have to first consult the microfilm
of the alphabetical index of the the Civil Registration of
tirths for the year involved, pick out your ancestor, and
then order the microfilm from Salt Lake which contains
the volume and page of the registration book with your
ancestor's registration entry.
Doing it yourself would probably be the best way because
of the name Kelly. With a common name like Kelly you
will have to separate your Kelly births from pages of other
Kellys. If you go to Registrar's route you will end
up paying them for a lot of registrations that are not
your relatives.
Bottom line is your relatives will be in the Kelly bunch somewhere.
You will have to sort out the ones with Kelly and
Frain parents.
Good luck,

Thanks for the reply. I have a local LDS where I live and will pay them a visit. I am also going back to Scotland and Ireland for a holiday this coming September, maybe I might find something in the archives in Dublin.
