RIC stations and records, Roscommon

Post by John K »

Two requests:
1. Does anyone have information on a Royal Irish Constabulary (RIC) barracks (police station) at Four Mile House near Roscommon town in the 1850s and 1860s please? Has anything been published on this or where would information be available?
2. Are there any records from individual RIC barracks dating from that time (1850s and 1860s) and if so where can they be found? I am thinking of such records as ledgers, daily reports, police reports etc.
Many thanks,
John

At Griffith's Valuation in 1857 there were RIC barracks at Ballinderry townland, Kilbride Civil parish.
Fourmilehouse is located in Ballinderry townland.
RIC Sgt Cowan is listed in Ballinderry townland at the 1901 Census - see www.leitrim-roscommon.com

John K,

There is a book on the market written by Irishman Jim Herlihy.
You can purchase the book on the following Website. I think you might find it very helpful.
