John Mylet/Mylot & Mary Farrell,Frenchpark

Post by mppwalsh »

I am looking for information on the Marriage of John Mylet and Mary Farrell around 1860. Their first child ,Elizabeth was Christened on March 3, 1861 in the R C Parish of Breedogue and Ballinameen, Roscommon (records found LDS). Other children were Mary, Patrick, Michael and Thomas. Thomas came to NYC in 1893 and said he was from Frenchpark.
I found several Moylett, Mylett etc. in Griffiths Val and 1901 Census but having problem making a definate link.

Thank you for any help you might give me.

Have you checked LDS films for the marriage of John and Mary.
See LDS film 989738, 1851 - 1881,
and LDS film 989741, 1833-1850

For the contents of each film visit www.familysearch.org

The LDS British Isles Vital Records index (BIVRI) CD lists a likely birth.

Thomas Milet, born 2 July 1871.
Birth registed in Frenchpark Registrar’s District.
Father John Milet, mother Mary Farrell.
Recorded on page 164 of LDS film 255829.

If you check the LDS film it will show the place of birth for Thomas.

There were 97 townlands in Frenchpark Registrar’s District.

Griffith’s Valuation records show
Moylett, Patrick, Kilnamanagh Civil Parish, Slieveroe townland.
Moylett, Winifred, Kilnamanagh Civil Parish, Slieveroe townland.
Moylett, Mary, Tibohine Civil Parish, Cloonarragh townland.

The change of occupiers of land from c1855 – c1920 can be seen on LDS film as follows:
Silieveroe townland film # 867977
Cloonarragh townland film # 867976

Roger McDonnell’s 1901 Census at http://www.leitrim-roscommon.com/1901census/ shows entries for Mylet, Mylet and Mylott in Slieveroe townland.

The entry of major interest:
Head of household: Mylott, John (73), farmer
Other occupants: Mary (71)-Michael (30)-John McGrath (7)gs

Another entry of interest for John Mylott (35), farmer

See my recent posts for tips on using the BIVRI.

Ed,
Thank you for your response. The mention of the name McGrath rang bell. Back in 2002 there was a posting, on the Mylet bulletin board(Roots and Ancestry.com), by an Erin O. stating that her G-Grandfather was John McGrath from Frenchpark and that his parents were Peter McGrath and Elizabeth Mylott. At that time I did not make a connection for she mentioned that John was born in 1874-1972 so the dates did not fit. The 1874 s/b 1894.
I believe that Elizabeth must have been Tom's older sister.I have Tom's marriage certificate and it states that Mary Farrell and John Mylet were his parents. I will try to obtain Mary and John's Marriage cert. and see what info that will give me.

Thanks again,
M. Walsh
