JUDGE is a very rare surname in Newfoundland,so rare that if anyone in Ireland knows of just one male JUDGE or JUDGE family that migrated to Newfoundland before,say,1835, then it's about 98% certain you just found my ancestor. I think they came in as Judge because I cannot find any Breheney family so far.Personally,I live in Australia,so all research is by internet.
I do not know which county, but because it's Judge, it seems most likely the general area of Sligo,Roscommon,Mayo,Leitrim. Common first names in my family in early 1800's were Peter Joseph Judge,Joseph Peter,William Patrick,Patrick William, and other combinations of those names, plus Jeremiah and John, Margaret,Honora, Ellen,Anne, Hannah,Elizabeth.
In case there was mail contact with family back home, my branch of the Judges is intermarried with Mi'Kmaq American Indian in about 1856. Her name was Mary Ellen Miller.
I have so far made up 57 pages on Newfoundland Judges.Hope someone can help on the Irish connection.Thanks. Ward.
