Dunt family name and Jamaica

I have been researching my ancestors and am intrigued by a relative, charles dunt, born 1815. In the 1841 census he states he was born in Ireland, in 1851 it says roscommon, in 1861 it says Boyle Roscommon and in 1871 it says Jamaica! During this period (up to his death in 1877) he lived in Colchester as a Tailor. I have been scratching my head, trying to work out the connection between ireland and jamaica, whether his work was an indicator (if his tailoring had been handed down from his mother or father) and whether his settlement in Colchester inferred a military connection. I would love to hear any theories.....!

Hi Maria,
The 101st Regiment of foot was staioned in Jamaica until about 1817. My GGGGrandfather was with this regiment in Jamaica and had several children while stationed there. He came from Carrick on Shannon in Roscommon co. Try this website and search for your surname: http://www.catalogue.nationalarchives.gov.uk/search.asp
