Hi Everyone,

I am looking for any information on Reynolds families from Carrick Townland in Mohill. Especially looking for information on the following family from the 1901 census.

Catherine(60) children John(24) James(22) Ellie (19)

I have been tracing my reynolds for some time. They listed their townland on registers as Corrig. After doing some research I found two or three other families who listed their townland as Corrig on registers but who were listed as living in Carrick on the 1901 census, so I am assuming that's where my reynolds are from too.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Hi -
As I hunt for a Patrick Reynolds and Mary O'Toole (1830-1849 in Mohill) I have found that corrig becomes carrig becomes carrick. I think you will find that your "corrig" friends are also "carrick" friends.

Thanks so much becky. It's great to see that someone else has found the same connections between corrig-carrick. Have you found any information on reynolds or doonan's in carrick? no one else seems to be looking for them, which is kind of sad to me!

I am currently researching Reynolds (Patrick and Mary m1830 in Carrick, Mohill, Leitrim) and (Peter Toole and Ann Nutley m abt 1805 in Carrick, Anaduff, Leitrim). If you have specific names (father and mother and need a birth) and dates, I can report what I find.

Hi Becky This is what I have

John Reynolds M. Catherine Doonan St. Patrick's Mohill 1857
D. Anna born 1858
S. Michael born 1864
S. Francis born 1866
D. Bridget born 1869
S. John born 1875
S. James born 1877

Someone sent me the following baptism dates from the church records
8 Mar 1858 Anna Reynolds. Sponsers were Michael Doonan and Anna Doonan.
Page 131, 12 Oct 1866. Francis Reynolds. Sponsers were john Reilly and Bridgit Bohan.
Page 195, 30 Apr 1875. John Reynolds. Sponsers Wm McKeon and Mary Reynolds
Page 214, 14 Jun 1877. James Reynolds,Sponsers William Reynolds and Rose Reynolds.

At the least, James record indicates that the townland is corrig(carrick). The only other info I know is that Michael immigrated to New York. He is my great grandfather. I also found a marriage record for Anna in New York City 1895 to a Frank W. Kogler. Her last name in that record was listed as Domuoa so I assume it was a second marriage. I could never find them on any census records so no Idea what happened to them.

At least one other brother came to America. Family history says that he was a traveling saleman of some sort but no one knows which brother or where he ended up.

HI james. Thanks for the post! I did get the film a few months ago for James and one other child(i can't remember off the top of my head who). The townland in it was listed as corrig. After doing some research I beleive that corrig is actually carrick.

Sorry to throw the cat amongst the pigeons but I may have found another contender for 'Carrick". Susan Daily is currently working on photographing lots of the Tithe book and there are images online at

If you go to the first one (variants of Bohey) you will find she has photographed not only the cover of the book but also the intro page. This includes a map of Adoon townland - split into its constituent sub-townlands.

Around the edge are listed, in geographical position, the surrounding townlands. All of these are readily identifiable from the Mohill parish map on the site - EXCEPT ONE. This is listed as Carragh and, from its position it must be part of Garvagh townland as I don't think any other makes sense.

OK Its probably not the one you want but interesting nonetheless

I've nothing to add on the Carrick/Corrig debate, but just want to say thanks to Jim for the link to those Tithe pages. And obviously to Susan Dailly for her work on them. These go some way to addressing one major absentee from online Leitrim data and are very welcome.

Carrick: Carraig, a rocky place. Locally the townland is called Corrick.
