Gill/Gillhooly Farm.... County Leitrim

Post by Pattie »

Hi everyone,

According to my 81 yrs young second cousin Mary O'Toole, daughter of Mary Jane Gilhooly of Annaduff, The Gill/Gilhooly farm is still in business. I understand that my great uncle Bernard Gilhooly's son or grandson now runs it. Im having a difficult time locating it.

Any help would be appreciated :)

Pattie On this site look under the 1901 census - townland Curraghmartin you will find Patrick Gill 75 farmer widow Francis Gilhooly age 31 farmer born Roscommon son in law. Also Celia Gilhooly age 30 daughter in law and Mary Jane Gilhooly age 1 gd Patrick Gilhooly age 3 months. Keep in mind in your research that the names Gallogly and Gilhooly are the same in Church records. Also on this site are the Irish phone directories, I suggest you call over the pond and say hello to someone on Curraghmartin. God Bless Jim Bohan

its good to see someone else researching the gilhoolys! according to the griffiths 1856, there are four gilhooly occupiers in annaduff; bridget, a widow living in dristernan, very close to curraghmartin. bernard, in annaduff townland. mary in corduff and luke in drumlom. when you look at the 1901 cencus for gilhoolys, the only one that matches is patrick in disternan, he has four children younger than the francis that has married cecilia gill. i suppose this means that they all come from co-roscommon? i have looked at the tithe records, 1830s, for annaduff and there are gilhooly in the parish. let me know if this is any help to you. happy hunting, john gilhooly, bonnie scotland

Pattie The townland of Curraghmartin (Curramartin modern spelling - or local ) is just north of the town of Drumsna off route 299. County -Leitrim, Barony - Leitrim - Parish -Annaduff PLU -Carrick on Shannon. I have a discovery series map showing it and the surrounding area for miles. I also have 5 phone numbers 2 Gilhooley and 3 Gill who reside there . Email me and I will give you info and send you a copy of the map. God Bless Jim Bohan P. S. These maps are the way I found my grandfathers house and then I called up and luckly I have visited there many times since.

Hi! Thankyou for replying. Bernard wasnt born yet to be in the 1901 census. I definitley know for a fact that Francis Gilhooly and Cecilia Gill are my great grandparents. I am just looking for the farm itself, so maybe I could see a picture of it.

Its wierd isnt it? Now that Ive gone back 4 generations , which was the plan..now all I want are photos LOL. Where does it end? :)

God Bless, Pattie

Pattie The map showing the location of Curraghmartin (Curramartin)is Ordinance Survey of Ireland DISCOVERY SERIES #33. The scale is 1:50 000 and covers part of Leitrim ,Longford ,,Roscommon, and Sligo. These maps are produced in Dublin and I purchase them at the Book Nest in Sligo Ireland. www.booknest.ie Trace down from the top 01 and from right side 01 and you are there.I xerox and enlarge portions and use them for research and actual roadmaps when over the pond. Great for showing residents to help you locate Townlands (there are all on these maps ) roads ,lakes, and houses , yes they are on these also. God Bless Jim Bohan
