McCabe Family Genealogy

Post by Granville W. Wehland »

My great-grandparents were Thomas McCabe and his wife Bridget Anne (Darcy-"I think") McCabe who came to this country and was an iron worker in Trenton, New Jersey in the 1840'sand there daughter was Elizabeth Agatha McCabe, my grandmother. They settled in Tenlytown, Md. first and later in Cherrydale,Virginia 2nd where my grandfather had a sxtore until he died. Anyone out there have any information on this family and their origin in Ireland? They were strick Roman Catholics. Thank you, Granville

I received the following from a researcher in Britain whom I asked to check British Army records because I think my Great Grandfather was in the British Army and fought in the Boer War.
This may be of help to you, although I suspect Patrick is a very common name in Ireland. If, in your research, you come across the name "Field" I certainly would appreciate hearin about it because I think this may be connected to my side of the McCabe family.
John McCabe
Born mid-Gourock??(a slight legibility problem), Greenock, Renfrew
He was aged 20 on enlistment in 1884
Regiment, The Royal Scots, regimental number 1477
Served in South Africa, (Zululand), from 5 Nov 84 to 8 Aug 91
Next-of-kin, Father, John McCabe of 7 Cross Shore St, Greenock.
Philip McCabe
Born St Patrick's, Edinburgh
He was aged 19 on enlistment in 1884
Regiment, The Royal Scots, regimental number 1309
Served in South Africa, (Zululand), from 14 Feb 85 to 9 Mar 90
Next-of-kin, Father, 1, Cranston St, Edinburgh
Patrick McCabe
Born Dundalk, County Louth
He was aged 18 on enlistment in 1884
Regiment, The Royal Irish Regiment, regimental number 1284
Served in South Africa, from 8 Dec 86 to 24 Aug 90
Next-of-kin, Aunt, Catherine Brennan, Chester's Lane, Drogheda
Good hunting.
