Oliver Jones Roscommon about 1850

Post by jeanwell »

I'm looking for the family of Oliver and Margaret Jones.
They were possibly of Baslick. Their Daughter Margaret was born in County Roscommon about 1849. She emigrated to New York in about 1865

Thank you Ed for your information. I have some additional information, My inference that Margaret came from Baslick came from the following:
Land Survey results County Roscommon taken in 1857-1858

Surname Given County Barony Parish Townland City or Street Lessor Description Acres Roods Perches L A N D B L D G T O T A L

(27&21)18 Jones Oliver Roscommon Castlereagh Baslick Lissalway Patrick Grehan Ho off ld 8 0 10 6 0 0 10 6 10

I do have information about her life in New York from the 1880 census and her death certificate.

She married William T. Ferre in Manhattan. She died October 1,1895 in Manhattan at age 46. She had been in NYC for 30 years. She gives her birthplace as Ireland. Her parents were Oliver and Margaret Jones. She is buried in Calvary Cemetery, Woodside, N.Y. I was told as a child that she came from County Roscommon. Her only child was George Francis Ferre born in 1875 Manhattan. George was married in St. Brigid's Church,NYC in 1903. I have contacted the church, but they do not have any records . George was my grandfather.

I do not have any experience in Irish genealogy. I have done research in early U.S, Canada and Scotland. If you have any ideas, I would appreciate your input.
