Townland of Caul in Roscommon

The birthplace of someone who may be one of my ancestors is listed on the 1901 census as Caulmil, Ireland.

Having looked at the townland database the nearest match is Caul in Roscommon. (I think they did come from Co Roscommon but am not able to verify this)

What I am thinking is, does anyone know if there used to be a mill of some type within this townland?

Surnames, given names and dates may be helpful.

There was no mill in Caul townland, Kilglass Civil parish, County Roscommon, at the 1857 Griffiths Valuation. See http://www.leitrim-roscommon.com/GRIFFITH/

THere is a Caughmill townland in Leck Civil parish, County Donegal.

Thankyou for that, John. I think the townland you mention is more likely.

I was looking at James Obrien in the British 1901 census in Oswestry born about 1849. This may or may not be the same person listed as a relative in the household of Thomas Obrien at 1 Mount Street Wrexham in 1881.

Thomas is shown on IGI as born in Roscommon, Roscommon which may mean the town of Roscommon but as he was married twice and his second wife came from Co Roscommon I am not too sure this is correct and wish to verify it myself if possible. The thinking is that maybe James was his brother.

Thomas was my great grandather hence my interest in the place of birth.
