Boyd family, Fuerty, Roscommon

Post by dorieboyd »

Hello, I am looking for descendants of Peter Boyd, Parish of Fuerty, County Roscommon. Peter's DOB would be about 1776. His son James Henry (1805-1888), was married to Letitia Kerrigan (1814-1868), and they were my great-grandparents. Their children were Michael, James Henry, Fanny, Lucy, Maria, William and Annie. William was my great-grandfather (1857-1918), born in Fuerty and arrived in USA in 1864. I will be visiting Roscommon in May, 2013, and would like to learn as much as I can about the Boyd family of Fuerty before the trip. Any contacts would be very much appreciated.

Boyd Family

Hi dorieboyd:

You may already have seen this data. If not, search the Leitrim-Roscommon Griffith’s Search Page
for the surname Boyd and county Roscommon. A number of Boyds will appear. To reduce the number, enter the parish of Fuerty. It appears that most of the Boyds living in Fuerty at that time lived in the townland of Creemully and Aghagad Beg and occupied the parcels of land identified as Map Ref. (39&38&41). If you search the surname Kerrigan in the same way, three Kerrigans should appear. They also are connected to Map Ref. (39&38&41), suggesting that they all may have lived near each other when the survey was conducted in 1857-58.
Also, search national archives.ie and click on Census of Ireland 1901/1911. Click on search the census records, browse by place, 1901, Roscommon, Fuerty, Fuerty, Creemully or Aghagad Beg, and
Occupants of houses 23 (twice), 27, 45 and 47. Do the same for the 1911 census. The Boyds and Kerrigans are listed a Roman Catholic, and they may have attended the Church of Our Lady Assumed in the village of Creemully. I had no luck getting records out of these folks several years ago.
Finally, I came across a Boyd web site that looks interesting. www.clanboyd.info will get you to it. Good luck in your search. BobK.
