Re: KERINS- looking for information
(User Above) wrote: : Please help me find out about my heritage
My name is Bill Kerins ( my ancestors adopted the "s" in 1898) and my roots go back to northern County Clare. My gfather and seven of his siblings added the s after being in this country some considerable time. My gfather's brother's line ( still in Ireland) still use Kerin or the gailic form O Ceirin.
Coincidentally, in 1872 my gfather (then Patrick Kerin b-1846 in Lisdoonvarna) married a Bridget Kerins ( apparently from Ennistymon) in Fall River MA. So my interest in the Kerin(s) sept is multi-facetted. I have considerable information from the 1901 Irish census and the 1855 Griffith's about the Kerin(s) in northern County Clare.
I also have some generic information about the sept that dates back to the 1420s when they migrated from Mayo to Kerry and Clare.
My reason for telling you this is to entice you into trading information and possibly, forming a Kerin(s) genealogy club. Please contact me by E-mail if you think there could be some mutual advantage.
Bill Kerins bkerins@cybercom.net
