Looking for family history in Kiltyclogher. Any knowledge of the McGourty family or the history of Kiltyclogher would be deeply appreciated. Patrick McGourty was born March 17, 1850 In Kiltyclougher. Thanks, Maggie

Hi,Kiltycloger is the birthplace of my Dolan relatives. We don't have McGourty's in our family that I know of. We've learned the godparents of the Dolan children and their surnames are Gordon, Maguire, McGuire, Dolan, McGuinness. It's such a small town, we were there last summer. Beautiful location in amongst mountains. It's hard to get info from the Leitrim heritage center. We hired the Hibernarian Research Society to add to info we'd already learned. They couldn't add much. It's basically a farming community. They had hard times during the Famine. If you know of my surnames in amongst yours let me know. Mary L. Casey

Hello Maggie:I do not know how much research you have done. I am just starting to trace my family history. My Great-grandfather's name is Patrick McGourty. My grandfather's name is Charles O. McGourty, he was born in Woburn, MA on April 29, 1887. I do not know if the Patrick McGourty you are referring to is his father (my great-grandfather). I believe my Great-granfather was from Leitrim, however, I am not sure where in Leitrim. I am taking a trip to Ireland next month and hope to do some research then. I do not know if this helps any or if there is a connection.Appreciate hearing back from you.Michael McGourty

: Hi,My grandfather John Francis McGorty came to New York around 1918. My father of the same name was his youngest child of 4.His mothers maiden name was Curran. I know he shortened his name from MacGourty when he settled in the US. He lived in Leitrim before he moved to the states.
