I just came across this webpage and noted that a year ago this time some folks mentioned having McNiff clan members in their backgrounds. I believe my paternal grandfather came from Roscommon and settled in Boston, but know nothing else. Can anyone point me to a starting point to do some research?

There is a McTiernan web page which has an entire section of McNiff names. My McNiff ancestor (Bridget) settled in Brooklyn, NY however they may have come through Boston. I have been unable to find anything. Bridget had a brother, Myles McNiff. I'm not sure if he immigrated to America or not however in a series of books, I believe it was called Friends in Boston, Irish who came over placed ads in the local newspaper looking for lost relatives and friends. There was an ad placed by a Myles McNiff and several family members including a sister and cousin were listed. Many of the McNiffs in Ireland were in county Leitrim, Drumkeeran, Inishmagrath Parish. This would be a good place to look.
