Frenchpark - Raheen - Elphin: Flanagan's and friends

Post by Tom keenan »

I will be travelling in Ireland the first two weeks in May and expect to be driving through Roscommon about the 6th or 7th. I look forward to seeing the place where my g-g-grandmother lived and would welcome the finding of any remnants of her family or their friends. Her name was Mary Flanagan. She came to Philadelphia, PA, USA in 1883, leaving behind nine brothers and sisters: Edward (Ned), John, Bridget, Ellie, Patrick, Joseph, James, Margaret, and Kate. Her mother's maiden name was Catherine McNeil and her father was Patrick Flanagan. She was baptised in Elphin but her family wrote to her from Frenchpark in the 1880's and 1890's. Her father was a tailor and seemed to have business dealings with a Lord DeFreyne.
The family letters often mention their "Raheen" friends. I'm guessing that is the name of a town. They also make casual mention of many friends and neighbors. Some of whom are:
Bessie and Mary Ellen Beirne, Pat Brennan, John Butler, MaryAnne Cannon, Ellen and Kate Cassidy, John Conmnee, Pat Dean, Miss Doherty (teacher), Dr. Reaghan, Dr. Walsh, John Flemming, Pat Forde, John and Mary Freyne, Mick and Lizzie Gannon, John and Michael Hanly, Batty and Ellie Higgins, Charley Kenny, John and Pat Lavin, Kate and Mary Lowe, Johnny Mack, Mary McGrath, Danny, Deliah, Mary, and Lizzie McManus, Tom Moran, Kate and Mary Morris, Ellen Mulavey, Tom and Ann Mulvihill, Bernard and MaryAnn Reily, ? Sharkey, Mick and Tom Tansey.
If you know anything of this Flanagan family, their descendants or their connections with some of the family names above, I would enjoy hearing from you.
