Conlan Family

Post by Seamus Conlan »

My Father was born Philip Conlan in the town of Cavan in County Cavan in 1918.
One of four brothers, he fought in WW2 and lost two brothers to the Japanese. Philip and Patrick survived.
Leaving the RAF in 1949, he graduated from Bradford Uni, in England before joining an oil company.
After many years with Caltex he retired in 1981, to the island of Guernsey (just of the coast of france).
He had 5 children by his wife Barbara. They are Patrick, Sean, Peter, Sheelagh and myself, Seamus.
As far as my father remembers, the Conlans were part of the Conn grouping, and were powerful in the area
around Cavan and Monaghan, two counties of ancient Ulster. When I was in County Armagh I found
many people who knew of my name, but no more than that. I heard of no Conlans in that county,
though I met a few Conlons.
Yours aye,
M Seamus Conlan
Captain
22 Regiment Royal Artillery
Rapier Barracks
Kirton in Lindsey
England
