The Carlos clan are most numerous in and around<br>Castleplunkett, Tulsk, and Strokestown, Co. Roscommon.<br>There are a handful listed in the phone book, mostly<br>in these areas. There is a firm of solicitors, John J.<br>Carlos & Co., on Elphin St., in Strokestown, which has<br>been around since the last century. My great-<br>grandmother, on my mother's side, was Winifred,<br>daughter of James Carlos of Lisheen; she married<br>James Dolan of Castleruby, near Tulsk, in 1873.<br>William Carlos was godparent to one of their<br>children, Michael, born in 1876. Winifred had a<br>brother, James, who married Winifred McGarry; they<br>had daughters, Bridget in 1875 and Margaret in 1880.<br>Another James Carlos married Anne Keane and they had<br>a daughter Catherine in 1877. They were all living<br>in Lisheen, which is just north of Castleplunkett. <br>Anne, James, and William Carlos were all householders<br>there in 1901.I am afraid I have never been in touch<br>with the family; my grandmother lived in Castlerea<br>and died before I was born. I think it should not<br>be difficult to find some kinship in this area. I<br>have not come across Carloses in any numbers <br>elsewhere.<br>
